How Newegg Crushed A Patent Troll∝

For Newegg’s chief legal officer Lee Cheng, it’s a huge validation of the strategy the company decided to pursue back in 2007: not to settle with patent trolls. Ever.

“We basically took a look at this situation and said, this is bullshit,” said Cheng in an interview with Ars. “We saw that if we paid off this patent holder, we’d have to pay off every patent holder this same amount. This is the first case we took all the way to trial. And now, nobody has to pay Soverain jack squat for these patents.”

Newegg is the best.

Thanks, Newegg, You’re Amazing

Last night, I bought the EVGA GTX 670 from Newegg. I made my purchase around 11:30pm — I wanted to get in on another deal Newegg was having yesterday which was for their Crucial M4 SSD, it was marked down considerably. I thought I would bite the bullet and order the graphics and drive together.

A few hours later, Newegg sent our their daily deals email and with it a surprise. The video card I ordered hours earlier showed it had a new rebate (from EVGA) and a $20 Newegg Gift Card. I asked @NeweggService on Twitter this morning if I might be eligible anyway despite ordering last night. They got back to me just a couple hours while I was in class. They said I should send them an email with my order number so I did that. I sent that email at 1:30pm today and I got my reply back around 4pm — only three hours later. That’s exceptional.

And then it gets better. Newegg honored their promotional Gift Card even though I had ordered just a couple hours before!

So thanks, Newegg (and Freddy). Amazing customer service.
