I tried MODX1 years ago before I knew so much about WordPress, but the feeling I had then was MODX was just too big — it is a framework for constructing. If I was going to use a CMS like MODX, I might as well just build my own. The compromise with WordPress2 is that I have a common base with everyone else, so migrating and adapting in the future, in theory, should be easy.

2: Apparently, WordPress is a great platform for just writing. I really have to disagree with you there. I never use the editor — it’s an atrocity because it mutilates my paragraphs, markup and doesn’t even ship with a beautiful default font, it’s just some ordinary serif.
