    My Programming I teacher at college made a point of warning us about those. He called them “deadly semicolons”.

    Why don’t they just tell students, “any line that is not either a block(braces) or the header of a block(the line immediately before the opening brace) needs a semicolon”?

    But then you get things like the do-while and for loops to mess you up with the semicolons again…
