I was wondering where the local history settings were in Eclipse. I kept trying to find via my Project properties because I thought it was project specific. It’s not.
On a Mac, go to Eclipse > Preferences > General > Workspace > Local History.
On Windows, probably go to Edit > Preferences > General > Workspace > Local History.
Once there, you can find three options, Days to keep files, maximum entires per file and maximum file size. I had thought these settings were more likely to be project specific, which is why I kept trying to find out where these settings were in project properties.
Additionally, to see the local history of a file, you can right click on the file and go to Team > History. This will popup a tab in Eclipse which will list each save it has on record and has kept. And you can always use Restore from Local History too in the same menu.
Another subject of some interest is where these local history files are kept. They are usually kept in a Workspace subfolder called .metadata, and more specifically, [workspace}/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources/.history/. It might be a hidden folder on some operating systems, so keep that in mind if you can’t find it.
