Today, I replaced my WordPress 2.6.3 installation with a fresh copy of the newest beta in the WordPress 2.7 branch. Let me say that it’s excellent.
It’s pretty fancy. The left-navigation bar that is collapsible is a bit confusing at first, but after looking at the useful tool tips, it’s sensible. I still don’t understand how plugins are grouped, but there Plugins are under Settings now.
Of course, the new hype was directed to the bar, but additionally it seems a lot faster.
The post page is nice too. A clarification is the new publish area. The problem with the old one was that you didn’t know if it would post at a scheduled time or if it would post instantly. I wish they would’ve fixed the 24-hour time display in the publish center.
Another issue is that I noticed is that for some odd reason in the post center, there is no way to move a plugin’s position in the stack. The areas in the post center are movable but not the plugin area. Odd? The buttons in the post center look funny in Google Chrome.

Update: After I posted, I noticed that the thumbnail I posted above isn’t clickable and doesn’t show the full size image. I think that’s annoying. There are tickets still, I think for 2.7 and you can find them at the WordPress Trac.
Update 2: I was reading the thumbnail’s code and just noticed that the editor forgot the link that is normally wrapped around the image for the caption. Image should work now.
Hey Ryan, love the reviews, just thought I’d leave a comment :P So, I am beginning to think I will set up one of these WordPress things. My brother is sailing around the world, and my parents want me to set up a blog for him. Any suggestions?
@Sam – You can get a blog with WordPress at WordPress.com or if you have your own hosting, you can manage it your self with little effort.
