I had to upload some files for school and I didn’t want to make an entire page, css and script setup for them. The basic apache index page works for me, but I wanted it to look better than plain text with minimal html looks. I used the fancy directive to make things more fun (actually, it just adds icons.)
Throw this inside of an .htaccess file in the directory you want a fancy index for and you’re good to go.
All this does is make your directory, if there is no index, display a listing of files and give you some sorting capability via name, date, and type plus some icons for differentiation. It’s handy to this keep this snippet around because most hosts intentionally help you out by displaying nothing (403 error, I believe) when you get to a directory with no index.
